Z662-19 Pipeline Welding Requirements

A detailed review of the Section 7 mandatory welding requirements contained in the CSA Z662-19 and relevant clauses in section 12, and Annex P.

Critical Concepts Training – 9 hours Technical Instruction with Qualification Examination – $ 849 plus tax

This course is designed to provide practical understanding for the application of mandatory welding requirements contained in sections 7 and 12.7 of the CSA Z662-19.

Registrants will be provided a study guide, informative handouts and links to pre-recorded foundational videos prior to the live lecture.

Online Remote Access Training

This course is delivered by in person or remote attendance depending on the date chosen.

Remote training is provided on the Zoom Platform and includes the same group exercises and Q&A as in person sessions.

In order to attend a remote access presentation of the training, a suitable device (computer/laptop/tablet) with internet access is required.

You may attend the training directly through your web browser, or through the Zoom Client application on your computer, or the Zoom App for mobile devices.

Attendees will be provided a login code and instructions to attend and are required to log in at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the training presentation. A format to answer questions will be provided.

Pipeline Welders, Welding Inspectors, WPS Designers, Construction Managers, QC, IM Personnel and Incident Investigators.


This is an intermediate-advanced level course.
Applicants should have completed:

  • an entry level course offered by CASTI, CSA, NASA or PEICE, or
  • carry a level 1 or 2 CPAC qualification

Seminar Overview

This in-depth seminar provides critical details on establishing weld procedure specifications, qualifying welders to the specifications, and inspecting completed work in accordance with sections 7 and 12.7 of the CSA Z662-19. This training includes a review of the alternate welding provisions in section 12. Guidance on the use of Annex P is also provided.

This course is suitable for assisting companies in meeting their competence requirements under the CSA Z662-19. The content is also suitable preparation for those individuals intending to obtain a CPAC welder code qualification or an inspector certification from CWB and/or CPAC.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain a solid understanding of the content and practical application of section 7.
  • Understand the critical differences between a CSA weld procedure and then ASME weld procedure.
  • Understand the proper use and application of the essential changes table.
  • Learn the requirements for documentation and application of Z662 “welding lite”.
  • Understand the minimum welder qualification requirements and documentation protocol.
  • Understand the application of Annex P.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Qualification upon successful completion of the exam.


Training is from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and includes coffee and lunch breaks. The course will address the following:

In order to execute compliant services in the Canadian Oil and Gas Pipeline industry, The CSA Z662-19 requires personnel to be trained, experienced and qualified in accordance with their responsibilities and the requirements of the Z662 standard. This course content is designed to update and qualify or requalify previously trained and experienced industry professionals to the requirements of the new 2019 edition.

Code Qualification Examination

The training provides suitable detail and instruction for individuals planning to write their level 2 Pipeline Welding Concepts, Level 3 Z662 Pipeline Welder or Level 4 Z662 Pipeline Welding Inspector exam. Participants registering for the exam will be contacted to confirm the exam choice and arrange an examination date.
